Calls for Hips to be scrapped
Changes to the Home Information Pack come into force today which have brought widespread criticism from estate agents and the National Association of Estate Agents. The changes mean that a homeowner wishing to sell their property must now have a completed pack in place before they market the property.
Previously a property could be marketed once a HIP pack had been ordered. Estate Agents have described the changes as "pointless" and "damaging" and the NAEA said that 89% of agents questioned did not think that the changes would benefit buyers. The NAEA have again called for the packs to be scrapped during the downturn and reviewed later when the economic climate improves. Incredibly government statistics show that 77% of buyers paid no attention to the packs when buying a property.
Police investigate 'sale and rent back' firm.
Police have launched a £170m fraud investigation into 'sale and leaseback' firm North East Property Buyers (NEPB) amid claims that thousands of people face eviction from properties sold to the firm. The company bought up to two thousand properties from people in financial hardship or who were facing repossession paying sums under market value and using commercial mortgages. Those mortgages have not been paid and many now face eviction. Consumer watchdog Which say all sale and leaseback firms should be avoided because there is no protection in place for the consumer. Amid continuing controversy all sale and leaseback firms must be licenced by the 1st July 2009.
